Plant Operation

Year 2015 had been a very good year for Khimti in terms of production despites of devastating earthquakes that crippled whole country. Khimti was also hit by earthquake, but it managed to synchronize with grid relatively quick which apparently supported NEA a lot to cope with power needs of the country. Khimti dispatched total 403 GWh of electricity in 2015 with 99.27% of availability.
Year 2016 has been drier since the first month and it continued to be dry till June, month Baishakh (Apr-May) being driest recorded in last 16 years of operation. As a result, production in 2016 has been low compared to the forecast, however availability as of Jun remains as high as 99.98%. Annual maintenance completed in May making all 5 units ready for generation, but plant has received enough water for full production only from 15th of Jun. Monsoon is forecasted to be good this year so improvements in production in coming days expected.
During the period we have conducted two emergency drills –
1) GLOF evacuation involving staffs and families of HPL, Clinic, Khimti Project School, people from local community, Nepal army soldiers, Nepal police personnel, etc.
2) Firefighting drill for fire fighters also conducted including activities like run with breathing apparatus, practice on hose and nozzle, firefighting with water and fire extinguishers and rescue operation with casualty handling.
We also successfully commissioned upgrading of governor in unit 3 by in-house manpower.
